Ice hockey: Jokers supporter lit a torch – fines for two clubs

The incident happened on November 15 in Kokkola.

Ice Hockey Federation The disciplinary committee has fined Helsinki Jokeri and Kokkola’s Hermes a fine of 500 euros for the Mestis match in November.

Jokerit gets fined because its supporter lit a torch in the supporters stand. Hermes, on the other hand, was punished for neglecting safety regulations.

The incident happened on November 15, when Jokerit traveled to Kokkola as a guest of Hermes. The match ended with a 6–1 away victory for the Jokers.

According to the Hermes safety manager’s report, the smoke did not cause an alarm. There was so little smoke that neither the jury nor the organizer had to stop the match.

Since the arsonist could not be identified, no separate removal measures were taken during the match.

The union the report received shows that the security checks and other security arrangements have been properly organized in themselves.

“Despite this, at least the torch mentioned above, which was lit at the beginning of the match, has been smuggled into the stands,” says the disciplinary committee in its decision.

Therefore, the organizing club, Hermes, will receive a fine in accordance with the committee’s established settlement practice.

The Disciplinary Committee says that the Jokers took the matter seriously and clarified what happened with their supporters, but previous flare-ups increase the reprehensibility of the act.

“Taking these above-mentioned points into account, the committee considers that for lighting the torch, the Jokers will receive an increased fine from the previous time,” the committee announced in its disciplinary decision at the beginning of December.
