Louzán guarantees that the Copa del Rey Final will be played in Seville on a date other than Feria Saturday

The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, has guaranteed that next year’s Copa del Rey Final, as well as the 2027 and 2028 editions, will be held in Seville, although the date of the match has not yet been confirmed, since the one that had been initially considered, April 25, coincides with Feria Saturday and the Jerez motorcycle championship, which discouraged the dispute of a meeting that brings together more than 70,000 spectators, without forgetting the thousands of fans who travel despite not having tickets.

This was stated by Louzán in an interview on the COPE network, where he highlighted that both the Federation’s Competition Director and his counterpart in La Liga are looking for “the best solution.” “It must be taken into account that before La Cartuja was used only for the Cup Final and now Betis plays its league and UEFA matches there.”

“Dressing a facility like that takes time: the stadium has to be in good condition and, therefore, that date that was initially planned on the calendar, which was made in the month of June, is not going to be, it will be another,” he added without revealing which days are currently on the table.

Rafael Louzán did want to make it clear that the dispute of the Final in Seville is not at risk: “There is no other possibility, so it will be Seville 2026, Seville 2027 and Seville 2028”, he resolved when questioned about this.

The Government Subdelegation and the City Council had warned days ago of the complexity of guaranteeing security and basic services on a weekend where, in addition, the Spanish motorcycling Grand Prix takes place in Jerez, just 90 kilometers from the Andalusian capital, where tens of thousands of fans of two-wheeled sports gather.

The spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group, Antonio Muñoz, had also urged the mayor to carry out “the necessary steps” to avoid the coincidence of both events – Cup Final and April Fair – given that, in his opinion, this coincidence would cause “significant distortions in public services”, especially in police devices, which would require “extraordinary reinforcement.”
