According to a media report, board member Klaus Allofs is about to leave Fortuna Düsseldorf. Ex-BVB squad planner Sven Mislintat (53) is to succeed him as manager of the struggling second division club, as “Bild” reports. The supervisory board will decide on this step at a meeting at the weekend. This should become official on Monday. The club initially did not respond to a request from the German Press Agency.
Fortuna will play second-placed SV Elversberg on Sunday and could even slip to last place in the table. Allofs and the club announced last week that the 69-year-old would not be extending his contract, which expires next summer. The Düsseldorf native recently emphasized that he wanted to stay at Fortuna until then.
After the statement, there were voices calling for his immediate withdrawal. Düsseldorf started the season as contenders for promotion and is only one point ahead of the relegation zone.
It is also questionable what an immediate departure of Allofs would mean for the future of coach Markus beginning. Allofs only signed the 51-year-old in October as Daniel Thioune’s successor. There has only been one win and six defeats in eight competitive games since the start.
Mislintat’s time in Dortmund ended in the spring
Mislintat has also been linked to second division club Dynamo Dresden. The 53-year-old has an excellent reputation, particularly when it comes to discovering talent. While still a chief scout, he guided, among others, Ousmane Dembélé to BVB. He then worked for Arsenal FC, VfB Stuttgart and Ajax Amsterdam. His second time in Dortmund ended in spring 2025 after just a few months. Previously, there were said to be repeated differences between Mislintat and sports director Sebastian Kehl and managing director Lars Ricken.
