The publication, however, also seems to indicate that Poatan already knows who and when his next fight will be. He regained the light heavyweight belt by defeating Magomed Ankalaev in October; the Brazilian had lost the title to the Russian at the beginning of the year.

Poatan’s future in the UFC

With the fight against Jon Jones in the White House practically ruled out, the question arises as to what the Tupiniquim’s next steps will be in the organization; he has two paths.

One of them is to continue in the light heavyweight division and make his first title defense since regaining it. One option would be to face Carlos Ulberg, third in the category rankings.

The other way would be to finally move up a category. With Tom Aspinall sidelined to treat an eye injury, Dana White may opt to promote a fight for the interim heavyweight belt; Pereira could already face someone at the top of the division, like Ciryl Gane or Alexander Volkov.
