PSG will have to pay 61 million in arrears to Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain will have to pay 61 million euros a Kyian Mbappe for bonuses and back wages: this was established by the Paris Labor Court regarding the dispute between the Parisian club and the French striker regarding the expiry of his contract before his transfer to Real Madrid in 2024.

The 26-year-old Golden Ball’s lawyers had asked over 260 million eurosarguing that his contract with PSG should be reclassified as permanent and for this reason they had invoked dismissal without just cause (44.6 million), mobbing (37.5 million) and disguised work (37.5 million).

The council, made up of two employer representatives and two employee representatives, rejected this reclassification but established that PSG had not paid three months’ salary, an ethics bonus and a signing bonus required by the contract. This is what had already been indicated by two decisions of the French Professional Football League (LFP) in September and October 2024, without PSG producing any evidence of Mbappe’s renunciation of his rights.
The judges rejected the request of the Parisian club which in turn had claimed compensation of 440 million euros, citing damages and a “loss of opportunity” for the player’s decision to leave the club on a free transfer.

The ruling, which can be appealed, is set to set a precedent for player contracts in French football after this clash was at the center of sporting news for months.
