The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz announced this Wednesday that Juan Carlos Ferrero has stopped being his coach, separating their paths after seven years in which the Murcian has managed to win six Grand Slams and reach number one in the ATP ranking.
“Now are times of change for both of us, new adventures and new projects. But I am certain that we will face them in the right way, giving our best, as we have always done. Always adding,” says the Murcian tennis player in a statement published on his ‘X’ account.
“After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and player,” begins a note in which he thanks Juan Carlos Ferrero for having turned his “childhood dreams” into “realities.” “We started this path when I was just a kid, and throughout this time you have accompanied me on an incredible journey, on and off the track. And I have thoroughly enjoyed every step with you,” he continues.
Alcaraz confesses that with the Valencian coach he has managed to “reach the top”, and that I feel that, if our sporting paths had to separate, it should be “from up there”, the place for which they always worked and to which they always aspired to reach.
“There are so many memories that come to mind that keeping just one would not be fair. You have made me grow as an athlete, but above all as a person. And something that I value very much: I have enjoyed the process. I am left with that, with the path we have traveled together,” thanks the current world number one to whom he has been his only coach in his professional stage.
Finally, Alcaraz wished “the best from the heart” for the future. “I am left with the peace of mind of knowing that we have left nothing to give, that we have made everything available to each other,” he concludes.
For his part, Juan Carlos Ferrero has also published a few words on his Instagram account: “Saying goodbye is never easy, and even less so when there are so many shared experiences behind it. We have worked hard, grown together, and shared unforgettable experiences. I want to thank you for the time, the trust, the learning and, above all, for the people who have surrounded me throughout this journey,” he begins.
The one from Onteniente affirms that a “very important” stage of his life is coming to a close. “I close it with nostalgia, but also with pride and excitement for what may come. I know that everything I have experienced has prepared me to be better. Thank you, Carlos, for the trust, the effort and for making your way of competing that has made me feel so special. I wish you all the best, both professionally and personally,” he adds.
Finally, he also thanks the entire team for making his job easier during all these years. “With you I have learned that work is not just about tasks or results, but about the people who walk by your side. Each one of you leaves a mark on me that I will not forget. We have been a great team despite the difficulties. I am sure that you will continue to achieve success,” he concludes.
The couple formed by Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero have won six Grand Slams – Roland Garros (2), Wimbledon (2) and US Open (2) -, eight Masters 1000, eight ATP 500, two ATP 250, an Olympic silver medal and remain at number one in the ranking for 50 weeks.
