Rage broke out of the World Cup – Fifa had to react

International football association Fifa has received harsh criticism for the ticket prices for the World Cup. Now it brings a small number of cheaper tickets to the matches, priced at around £45 or $60. In euros, the price of a cheap ticket is around 50 euros. Reported about it BBC.

The competitions will be played in the USA, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

According to the association, the new ticket price is available for a certain number of “loyal fans” of the teams participating in the World Cup.

“We have listened to the feedback and this new category is the right solution,” says the Fifa administration.

Prime Minister of Great Britain Sir Keir Starmer welcomed the announcement, but hoped that Fifa would invest more in the availability of affordable tickets.

“So that the World Cup does not lose contact with the genuine supporters who make the game so special.”

The previous pricing was called “scandalous” by the British Football Supporters’ Association (FSA).

According to the calculation of the fan association, before the new category, watching all the matches of one’s own team until the final match would have cost an individual fan at least 6,900 dollars (5,900 euros). The amount is almost five times compared to the World Cup in Qatar.

Chairman of the FSA Tom Greatrex considers the small number of cheap tickets mostly a “hollow gesture” and an attempt to divert attention from the issue while continuing to exploit the fans.

Earlier, the supporters’ association Football Supporters Europe (FSE) demanded that Fifa “immediately suspend” ticket sales for next summer’s World Cup.

FSE said in his announcement that the tickets were “cheap” and claimed that Fifa was committing a “huge fraud”. According to FSE, the organization throws the traditions of the World Cup into the trash and completely ignores the supporter’s contribution to the games.
