PSG: UEFA reduces Lucas Hernandez’s suspension from three to two matches in the Champions League

Luis Enrique will be able to count on Lucas Hernandez sooner than expected in the Champions League. Initially, the 29-year-old defender was expected to miss three C1 matches after his expulsion during Paris’ victory against Tottenham (5-3) at the end of November. As such, the French international had missed the draw against Athletic Bilbao (0-0) and he would not have been eligible either for the trip to Sporting and the reception of Newcastle in January. The Habs would thus have missed the rest of the first round of the competition.

Finally, UEFA revised the suspension of the 2018 world champion downwards. Paris Saint-Germain’s appeal bore fruit. The European body’s control, ethics and disciplinary committee reduced the sanction at two meetings. Hernandez has already served one – against the Basques – and he will only miss the game against the Lisbon side, while Paris is well into this C1 league phase.

The full-back was guilty of elbowing Xavi Simmons, the former player of the capital club. As for the former Atlético player, UEFA had already reduced a suspension concerning a Parisians match. Author of the tackle which injured Achraf Hakimi, Luis Diaz was deprived of three matches initially before the sanction was reduced by one match.
