Arsenal complete the Carabao Cup semi-finals thanks to penalties

Arsenal FC won this Tuesday 8-7 on penalties against Crystal Palace, after 1-1 in regulation time, and has reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup to meet Chelsea FC, while Newcastle United and Manchester City will compete in the other ‘semi’.

‘Blues’, ‘citizens’ and ‘magpies’ had previously overcome this fifth round of the English League Cup, eliminating Cardiff, Brentford and Fulham respectively. So all that was left to do was meet the last member of the ‘semi’ and he left the event at the Emirates Stadium.

An own goal by Maxence Lacroix in the 80th minute, after two rebounds in a scramble for a corner, gave the hosts the lead. However, in added time Palace equalized through the work of Marc Guehi, hitting a low header from Jefferson Lerma in the six-yard box.

With no extra time in this stage of the tournament, the Gunners started the shootout and scored their eight penalties. On the other hand, Lacroix rounded off his bad night by missing the visiting team’s eighth shot, which sealed Arsenal’s ticket to the next phase to face Chelsea.
