Football: Klinsmann on World Cup title chances: Germany in the favorites pool

Former national coach Jürgen Klinsmann believes that the German national soccer team has a chance of winning the title at the 2026 World Cup. “Everything is possible. Germany is in the pool of favorites with the other big European nations,” said the 61-year-old on Sky Sport News. Klinsmann also counts reigning world champion Argentina and record champion Brazil among the title contenders at the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Klinsmann: XXL World Cup will be a marathon

“But anything is possible,” said the former Bundesliga coach at FC Bayern Munich. With regard to the increase to 48 teams, he added: “This tournament will be a huge challenge for all the participating teams, it will be a marathon. And why not go through this marathon and be there until the end and maybe pull off the huge surprise of becoming world champions?”

Klinsmann himself became world champion as a player in 1990. As a coach, he took part in two finals: in 2006 at the home World Cup in Germany as national coach and eight years later in Brazil with the USA. At that time, his ex-assistant Joachim Löw and the DFB team were crowned world champions.
