Robertson, Scotland legend and ‘Picasso’ of football, has died

Goodbye to John Robertson. The Scottish football legend has passed away at the age of 72. In his career, Robertson was a pillar of the Nottingham Forest team who won the European Cup in the late 1970s in 1978-79, repeating their success the following season.

Robertson, as a winger, provided the assist for the decisive goal in the first European Cup triumph in 1979 (1-0 win against Malmoe) and scored the decisive goal in the second final (1-0 against Hamburg). He won 28 caps for Scotland, notably scoring the decisive goal in the victory against England at Wembley in May 1981. Brian Clough, the famous Nottingham miracle manager, described Robertson as “the Picasso of football”.
