Death of Jean-Louis Gasset, former coach of Montpellier and OM

Jean-Louis Gasset has died, as announced by the mayor of Montpellier this Friday as well as the MHSC. The former coach of the Hérault, Marseille, Bordeaux and Ivory Coast football clubs was 72 years old. He had also been Laurent Blanc’s assistant at PSG.

Jean-Louis Gasset began his coaching career at MHSC, first as an assistant then as head coach in 1998. Before notably passing through Saint-Étienne (2017-2019), Bordeaux (2020-2021), Côte d’Ivoire (2022-2024) or OM (2024).

His career is also marked by his duo with Laurent Blanc, since he was his assistant at Bordeaux (2007-2010), with the French team (2010-2012) and at PSG (2013-2016).

His last coaching experience took place on the Montpellier bench, which he returned to between October 2024 and April 2025.
