Football: After Guardiola’s kilo warning: Haaland jokes about weight

Star striker Erling Haaland apparently didn’t go overboard at the Christmas dinner. The Manchester City attacker caused great amusement among fans and colleagues with a post on Instagram. You can see him on his scales and his exact weight of 94.4 kilograms. “Everything is fine!” wrote the 25-year-old Norwegian.

Guardiola feasts on holidays

The 1.95 meter tall Haaland was alluding to the statements of his coach Pep Guardiola. The Catalan had warned his players before the holidays not to show up at training with too many kilos on their ribs.

And they stuck to it. The 54-year-old said before the game on Saturday (1:30 p.m.) at Nottingham Forest that his players remained “incredibly disciplined”. And Guardiola admitted that he had “gained four or five kilos” himself “because I ate and drank so much”.

More than three kilos plus – then no game

Guardiola had confirmed that his team was put on the scales last Friday before the duel against West Ham United (3-0) in order to have a comparative value. “All the players I’ve had in the last ten years” have shown discipline: “And that’s no exception today either. We have a standard as a club, everyone knows exactly what they have to do.”

Guardiola had announced that he would check his players “how many kilos they have gained – to see if they are ‘too fat'” and added: “They are allowed to eat, but I want to be in control. I have to make a selection for December 27th against Nottingham Forest.”

His warning: Anyone who has gained more than three kilograms “will stay in Manchester and not travel to Nottingham. That’s for sure.” The former Bayern coach attaches extreme importance to fitness and healthy eating.
