“We cannot continue like this”: at the CAN, a draw weighs down Angola and Zimbabwe

Both teams were chasing their first points in Group B of the African Cup of Nations. Angola and Zimbabwe shared them equally this Friday at the Marrakech stadium: one each after their draw (1-1).

A result which already puts the two teams in a bad position after this second day of the group stage. Indeed, Angola was beaten by South Africa at the start of the competition (2-1), while Zimbabwe suffered at the end of the match against Mohamed Salah’s Egypt (2-1).

Imperative victory on the 3rd day

Access to the round of 16 is therefore seriously complicated, with one point in two group days. “In this competition, we don’t have time to think too much or let ourselves be overcome by sadness, because three days later, another match awaits you,” said Angolan midfielder Fredy, elected man of the match, after this draw. There is always a chance, and you have to be mentally strong. »

The player from Bodrum, in the Turkish second division, points out to everyone the faults of his team: “As I already said after the match against South Africa, we lost because of a single detail. It’s still the same today, and we cannot continue like this. We have to change this way of doing things to get the three points, and of course, we are working on that. »

17 strikes for Angola

Angola, who opened the scoring in the 24th minute against Zimbabwe, thanks to Jacinto Gelson, were joined in added time of the first half. Knowledge Musona equalized in the 45th +6 after a good sequence.

Despite its 17 shots (its highest total in a CAN match according to Opta), Angola did not manage to score a second goal. She could even have given in to the Zimbabwean attacks at the end of the match without the vigilance of her goalkeeper, Hugo Marques.
