Ice hockey: A valuable victory for Kiekko-Espo in Turku – a fatal mistake by the goalkeeper

Kiekko-Espoon in December, the only thing that has been rock-hard is being in pain. The team had lost six of their seven matches in the month before Friday’s 1–0 win over Turku Palloseura.

Defender Kristian Näkyvän a goal at the beginning of the second period was enough for Espoo to narrowly win.

There was a lot of luck involved in the hit. A visible shot seemed to miss the goal, but the TPS goalkeeper Eetu Mäkiniemi still decided to control the puck with his stick. Unfortunately for Mäkiniemi, the shot didn’t bounce into the corner, but into his own goal.

The goal was Näkyvä’s eighth of the season. It is the best quote of his SM league career.

To hit scored an assist Ottoville Leppänen admitted that the victory was a great relief and praised the good team spirit of the people from Espoo.

“We haven’t taken many triples in December. It makes us feel good, and Christmas continues with good feelings,” Leppänen said in an MTV TV interview after the match.

“This was what we set out to get in this league project a year and a half ago. We work for each other and enjoy it. There have been injuries, but those who are on their feet work hard. This club and this city are dear to all of us.”

Profit improved K-Espoo’s points balance to 47. The club is currently tenth in the league. There are six points behind HIFK, who are below the playoff line, in 13th place.
