Boxer Anthony Joshua, injured after a traffic accident in Nigeria

The British boxer Anthony Joshua suffered minor injuries this Monday after the car he was traveling in crashed in Nigeria, causing the death of two people, in an accident that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of the African country suspects was caused by excessive speed.

The Ogun State Police stated that the incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway this Monday morning, after images of the boxer on social media without the top part of his clothing and visibly dazed next to a vehicle.

“The Ogun State Police Command confirms that boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident at around 11am in Makun. The vehicle carrying Joshua was involved in the accident under circumstances which are currently being investigated,” the police statement said.

According to authorities, the boxer was sitting in the back of the vehicle and suffered “minor injuries” as a result of the accident, for which he received medical attention along with another injured person. “Tragically, two other passengers in the vehicle lost their lives at the scene of the accident,” the police note continued.

The FRSC published several images of the accident site on the ‘X’ social network, revealing that preliminary results suggest that the vehicle “was traveling above the legally established speed limit”, losing control during “an overtaking maneuver” and colliding with a truck stopped next to the road.

The former two-time IBF heavyweight world champion was on vacation in Africa following his sixth-round knockout victory over YouTuber Jake Paul in Miami less than two weeks ago.
