De Rossi at the Olimpico, the (chilling) return for Roma-Genoa

Daniele De Rossi faces Roma as an opponent for the first time, and the Olimpico dedicates a thrilling choreography to him. In the pre-match of the match between the Giallorossi and Genoa, the current Grifone coach was honored by the stadium in which he spent his entire career as a player, apart from the brief final period at Boca Juniors, and where he began his career as a coach.

It all started with a touching video which retraced De Rossi’s entire Giallorossi career, provoking applause and chants at the Olimpico. Lots of hugs for De Rossi on the bench, with Dybala and Mancini, among others, who came over to greet their former coach. Before the start of the match, Claudio Ranieri, De Rossi’s former coach and now manager of Roma, also approached.

De Rossi’s history with Roma

De Rossi’s career with Roma consisted of 623 appearances and 64 goals, with his farewell coming in 2019. Daniele flew to Buenos Aires to sign with Boca Juniors, making his dream come true. After retiring in January 2020 at the Bombonera, the paths of De Rossi and Roma crossed again at the beginning of 2024, when the former midfielder took over as Roma’s coach following the dismissal of José Mourinho.

After an excellent second part of the season, which ended with qualification for the Europa League, De Rossi was then sacked in September of the same year, just four days into the following season due to differences with the management.
