Metz youth player Tahirys Dos Santos, admitted for “serious burns” after the fire in Switzerland

FC Metz youth player Tahirys Dos Santos is admitted to a German hospital for “serious burns” that occurred during the fire that occurred in an establishment in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana during the New Year’s celebration, the French club has confirmed.

“FC Metz announces with deep sadness that Tahirys Dos Santos, the club’s youth player, originally from Mont-Saint-Martin, was injured in the fire that occurred in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, on New Year’s Eve. With severe burns, the 19-year-old was taken by helicopter to Germany, where he is currently receiving treatment,” it reported.

Swiss authorities confirmed that there are around 40 people dead and more than a hundred injured, most of them in serious condition, as a result of the fire that broke out in the Le Constellation bar. The president of the canton of Valais, Matthias Reynard, stated that the identification of the victims “may take time” in the face of “a critical situation” caused by “serious wounds and significant burns.”

Some of the injured were taken to Zurich, Bern, Lausanne and Rennaz, and the Valais Hospital already has all the intensive care beds filled. They also reported the deployment of ten helicopters, 40 ambulances and 150 paramedics.

In Metz they were “deeply affected” by the news. “The club’s board, players, coaching staff and staff are shocked and express their most sincere condolences to Tahirys at this difficult time as he battles his injuries. The club also wishes to express its full support for his family and is working with the medical authorities to organize his transfer to Mercy Hospital, near his home,” said the entity, which asked that “the privacy” of the player and his family be respected.
