ÖSV frustration in Madonna: “It has nothing to do with slalom skiing”

In any case, there are no ÖSV runners in the top ten. What at least a small spark of hope for the second round might:

The residue of Manuel Feller (14.) on Half-time leader Eduard Hallberg (FIN) at 0.75 seconds is no world and still opens up all the possibilities for the Tyrolean.

Michael Matt (17th) lost 84 hundredths of a second to the Finnish surprise leader in the first run. Johannes Strolz (20th) lost 1.17 seconds.

Only this trio made it to the second round. The remaining ÖSV slalom runners disappointed in Madonna di Campiglio.

Marco Schwarz conceded a deficit of over two seconds on the slope where he celebrated his last slalom victory in December 2023 and missed the second run. “That had nothing to do with slalom skiing,” said the Carinthian angrily.

Dominik Raschner moved in and was only included in the rankings once in the first five races of the season. Also Joshua Sturm landed on the seat of his pants.

A Problem child remains in the Austrian slalom team Fabio Gstrein. Last winter, with two podium finishes, it seemed as if the Ötztaler had established himself among the world’s best.

Out in the first round

This season, however, one followed Relapse into mediocrity: In the first four slaloms, the 28-year-old didn’t get past tenth place. In Madonna, Fabio Gstrein slipped after one completely botched trip from the course in the first round.

By the way, Gstrein was the only runner from the top 15 on the start list who didn’t make it to the finish.
