The ÖSV aces are in lurking position in Zauchensee

On Thursday, too, the speed women had to be patient until the external conditions permitted their first training session. The downhill training in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, which was shortened due to wind in the upper part, has not yet provided any real information for the World Cup race on Saturday. At the first scan the German asked Kira Weidle-Winkelmann on Thursday with a best time of 1:20.50 minutes ahead of the Austrians Christina Ager (+0,39), Mirjam Puchner (+0.45) and Lena Wechner (+0.52), Emily Schöpf (12th), Cornelia Hütter (17th) and Nadine Fest (20th) also made it into the top 20.

There is great hope among the runners for training on the entire route on Friday. “It was very, very short and very, very slow. But we have to be happy that we went,” said Puchner, for whom Zauchensee is, along with St. Johann, also a home ski area. “Zauchensee is a childhood memory at Easter. We went skiing and got Easter eggs. That was formative,” recalled the 33-year-old.

Egger would be “tempted” by the starting signal

Magdalena Egger Didn’t find the best conditions with start number three (+3.36). “They did a lot of work in advance. The pole is great. But you noticed that there was still a bit of snow on top from the night. After the start postponement, things are already quite slow. I’m assuming that the starting numbers at the back will set fast times.” She had never ridden the entire descent before. “I would be interested in the starting signal, it looks cool. We weren’t even allowed to drive down it during the inspection today, which was a bit of a shame.”

Nina Ortlieb was recently ill and in bed for three days; she had previously trained for the last time on December 28th. The shortened run suited her and she felt surprisingly good (+2.00). “The pace was pretty slow. There was still a lot of fresh snow in the upper part. I think we have to adjust again before the race.” With the start set back, the route loses some of its attractiveness, she noted.

The ÖSV women’s head coach will be back at the races Roland Assinger who had been out since mid-December after shoulder surgery.
