It came as quite a surprise as a sports director Stefan Kuntz (63) the HSV left at the beginning of the year. Officially, family reasons were given as the cause of the separation. But there may be much more to it, as is now gradually coming to light.
The German one Bildnewspaper reported that allegations of sexual harassment should have been the reason for the separation. Kuntz commented on this via Instagram: “First of all, I would like to say that the allegations hit me hard. One thing is clear: I firmly reject these allegations.” He called in his lawyers “for the benefit of my family and everyone close to me.” According to Kuntz, they should take action “against these false accusations and previous convictions”.
His former employer now reacted to this. The HSV contradicted Kuntz by sending: “In December 2025, allegations of serious misconduct by Stefan Kuntz were brought to the supervisory board of HSV Fußball Management AG. In accordance with its responsibility, the Supervisory Board initiated the investigation into the incidents immediately after becoming aware of the allegations with the support of specialized external lawyers. After careful examination and realizing that the allegations were credible, the supervisory board immediately decided to seek separation from the board member as quickly as possible.”
And further: “On this basis and in particular with knowledge of the allegations made against him, Stefan Kuntz agreed to the separation on December 31, 2025. He was represented by a lawyer. Despite multiple offers, Mr. Kuntz explicitly did not take advantage of the opportunity to comment to the supervisory board. Against the background presented, the allegations of a “slander campaign” against Stefan Kuntz are clearly inaccurate and misleading.”
