Austria is leading the way so far this Olympic winter the strongest Super-G team in the World Cup.
After the victories of Vincent Kriechmayr (Beaver Creek) and from Marco Schwarz (Livigno) and the two third places from Raphael Haaser raced in Wengen Stefan Babinsky the next ÖSV athlete on the podium.
The 29-year-old Styrian had already knocked on the top three this winter with fourth place in the Super-G at Copper Mountain; in Wengen, Stefan Babinsky only had to beat the Italian Giovanni Franzoni went first and was the second to celebrate first podium finish of his World Cup career.
With number 1 in 1st place
Giovanni Franzoni confirmed his training achievements in the Super-G. The 24-year-old Italian was the fastest in both downhill training sessions and set the best time with start number 1.
Stefan Babinsky, the Swiss, was in second place, 35 hundredths of a second behind Franjo von Allmen (+0.37) landed in third place.
Raphael Haaser (+0.68) came fifth as the second best Austrian, Vincent Kriechmayr (+1.28) botched his run and ended up behind his teammate Daniel Hemetsberger (+1.17) in 12th place.
The Austrian squad for the Olympic Super-G should now be: Vincent Kriechmayr, Marco Schwarz, Raphael Haaser, Stefan Babinsky.
