Sinner and Alcaraz win because they have no rivals? Federer’s video ‘unleashes’ social media

Sinner and Alcaraz do they win just because there is no competition? A video that is currently making the rounds on social media ‘feeds’ the thoughts of some enthusiasts. On the eve of the 2026 Australian Open, Roger Federer put on a show at Rod Laver Arena in a workout with Casper Ruud. The Swiss champion (who will be the protagonist in the opening ceremony of the tournament tomorrow, Saturday 17 January) has won the Australian Slam 6 times and on that court where he has dominated so many times he has enchanted the public, raising a doubt in many: “If he were still there, would Sinner and Alcaraz win that much?”. Judging by the comments on social media, more than a few are struggling to respond after watching the show.

Federer trained behind open doors with number 13 in the ATP ranking Ruudclosing with a tie-break style mini-match, won 7-2 without much effort. Hence the social enthusiasm: “There is no doubt that he should try to play only the big tournaments and perhaps a preparation tournament for each Slam… It would increase his number of Slams” someone writes.
