Tennis: Kitzbühel tournament for women immediately before men

Kitzbühel gets a new tennis tournament. From July 13th to 19th The women are playing in a WTA 125 tournament (challenger level) in Gamsstadt. This was announced on Thursday on the sidelines of the Hahnenkamm race week. The new clay court tournament takes place directly before the one that has taken place almost every year since 1945 Men’s tournament (Category ATP-250). With the women’s final and the start of the men’s qualification, both genders will meet this summer.

More than three decades of waiting

The last edition of a Kitzbühel women’s tournament took place in 1993. “It was a long-held wish of ours to bring women’s tennis back to Kitzbühel,” said Florian Zinnaglthe managing director of the Generali Open Kitzbühel. “It’s our goal to get all the Austrians here, whether that’s the case Lilli Tagger, Sinja Kraus or the Julia Grabher is.” Following the new Kitzbühel Week, the up-and-coming ITF tournament will take place in Amstetten.

The WTA 125 series forms the basis for tournaments organized by the Association of Professional Tennis Players (WTA). This is currently the largest women’s tournament in Austria Upper Austria Ladies in Linz (WTA-500/hard court), which will be played from April 5th in 2026. There have also recently been efforts in Vienna to launch a women’s tournament alongside the men’s town hall tournament.
