Golf: Straka makes a false start in California

Golf-Ass Sepp Straka has at his Prelude into the new year one False start. This is for the Viennese successful title defense at the PGA tournament in southern California La Quinta no longer an issue, after the 32-year-old is only in 147th place after two rounds with two over par.

The world number 12 is also expected to miss the cut after three of four rounds. Straka’s gap to the US leading duo Scottie Scheffler and Blades Brown is 19 strokes.

Best mark

Straka, who skipped the PGA’s opening tournament in Hawaii last week, didn’t get going at all at “The American Express” at La Quinta Country Club.

While the two-time Ryder Cup winner had to struggle with bogeys and double bogeys, world number one Scheffler and teenager Brown were able to enjoy a successful start. The 18-year-old Brown shot a round of 60 (12 under par) on Friday (local time), setting a record on the Nicklaus Tournament Course.

The Burgenlander Bernd Wiesberger Meanwhile, missed the cut at the Dubai Desert Classic, one of five Rolex Series tournaments on the DP World Tour, as did Tyrolean Maximilian Steinlechner.
