Tobogganing: Olympic double falls – tobogganers Storch/Patz convince

Before the Olympic premiere in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the women’s doubles team Dajana Eitberger and Magdalene Matschina make a mistake. At the home World Cup in Oberhof, the duo from RC Ilmenau and SV Bad Feilnbach crashed in turn ten after a driving error. Despite the third-best time in the final run, the World Cup remained in 14th place.

The Thuringian double Elisa Storch and Pauline Patz did better, achieving their best World Cup result of their career with second place behind the victorious Austrians Selina Egle and Lara Kipp. “We’re super happy, we didn’t expect it. It’s a load off our hearts,” said Patz.

Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal, who celebrated their track record and European title the previous week, also made a mistake in turn nine in the first run. The duo from Altenberg and Winterberg improved from seventh to fourth place with their best running time.

Eitberger: “We are not ashamed”

“We didn’t have much time to think about what was bad or not. We then decided to say yes and wanted to have a good second run. We can do it. We’re not ashamed of the mistake because we always drive at the limit,” said the 35-year-old former sprint world champion Eitberger. In the overall World Cup standings, they remain in second place behind Egle/Kipp (640 points) with 508 points ahead of Degenhardt/Rosenthal (490).
