That was nothing! The Olympic dress rehearsal didn’t go as planned for Julia Scheib. The Styrian was eliminated from the giant slalom in Špindlerův Mlýn after finishing third in the first round in the decision after a good split time. The fifth win of the season came to nothing, instead there was the second loss. Sweden’s Sara Hector won, defending her half-time lead. Behind them, two Americans, Paula Moltzan and Mikaela Shiffrin, landed on the podium. Nina Astner became the best Austrian in 13th place.
“I wasn’t skiing clean, then the end of the ski came off a bit. I would have liked to get a good result,” said Scheib. With the failure, she also missed the chance to win the small crystal ball for the RTL World Cup early. Her toughest competitor remains the Swiss Camille Rast, who made up ground in fourth place. Two giant slalom races are still on the program after the Olympics, Scheib leads Rast with 89 points.
