WIf the camera angle is not deceiving, there is no one around who could understand Dayot Upamecano. No Bavarian, no Swabian, no East Frisian. No Austrians come into the picture either. All you can see is a stadium with empty spectator stands and in the background, in the penalty area, there are a lot of French people milling about. What happens when Dayot Upamecano trains with his colleagues from the French national team before an international match and is filmed. And yet the video clearly shows Upamecano, in what appears to be a particularly emotional training moment, running for joy towards the corner flag and cheering loudly: “Yessss! That! Is! Ü! Be! Raggend!” He intones the word “outstanding” with a French accent that Peter Ustinov couldn’t have sung more beautifully in the role of detective Hercule Poirot. It is Joshua Kimmich’s favorite word.
