Back to the sword: Austria’s aces became samurai warriors

There’s nothing like a good mood. And this shouldn’t just happen on the tennis court. That’s where it happens “KURIER Austria Davis Cup Team” on Friday (6 a.m. CET, ORF 1) and Saturday (5 a.m. CET, ORF Sport Plus) in Tokyo Japan. While you’re there, you can also learn about the country’s culture.

First of all: There were no injuries. Because Jurij Rodionov, Lukas Neumayer, Sebastian Ofner, Lucas Miedler and Alex Erler seized the swords. Sounds worrying enough actually. This can also go wrong (or hakamas).

The men around Captain Jürgen Melzer completed one Samurai Course and learned how to properly wear the traditional kimono and hakama (trouser skirt), respectful manners such as bowing and swinging the katana (Japanese long sword), before they started fighting within the team. Of course, as always, the focus was on fun.

Of course, the bat is also used. On Sunday afternoon there were… Ariake Colisium the first training sessions completed.
