Ski ace Kilde is opting out of the Olympics

The Norwegian ski star Aleksander Aamodt Kilde will forego competing at the Winter Olympics in Italy. The 33-year-old announced this a few days before the opening of the season highlight next Friday. “I’ve done everything I could to be ready for the Olympics, but my head and body aren’t playing as well as they should,” Kilde said. He declared his season over early.

The Scandinavian fell violently while descending trails in January 2024 and seriously injured his lower leg and shoulder. He missed the entire last season, but made his comeback this winter. This didn’t go as hoped, Kilde recently had to forego a return to Wengen and the Streif in Kitzbühel, among other things. He reported back problems that severely affected him.

Focus on next season

“It is extremely difficult to make this decision after putting in so much work together with my family, the medical team, the national team and many others,” said the fiancé of top ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin. “At the same time, I’m proud that I fought back and was able to compete in the World Cup again.” Kilde now wants to concentrate on preparing for next season.
