Steinmeier keeps his fingers crossed for the German team

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier wished the German team every success at the Winter Olympics in Italy. During a visit to the Olympic Village in Milan, the head of state expressed the hope that the athletes’ long preparation “will pay off in good places and, if possible, medals.” Steinmeier added: “We’re keeping our fingers crossed for you.” The Olympics should also set an example for peace and understanding.

Steinmeier praised the central opening ceremony of the 25th Winter Games in Milan. Regarding the whistles in the San Siro Stadium, when US Vice President JD Vance was seen in the official gallery, he only said: “The approval in the stadium was not the same for every team that entered, but overall there was a good atmosphere.”

Steinmeier then attended the German women’s ice hockey game against Japan in Milan. Other stops on his detour to the Olympics include Cortina d’Ampezzo and Antholz in South Tyrol, where the biathlon competitions are held. The Olympic competitions until February 22nd. The closing ceremony will then take place in the Verona Arena.
