Power struggle at Hoffenheim: leading players speak out for Schicker and Ilzer

After the 5-1 defeat in the top game against FC Bayern in Munich, the coach once again strongly supported his compatriot Schicker, with whom Ilzer had already worked successfully at Sturm Graz.

This Monday there could be a showdown over Schicker’s future at a shareholders’ meeting in Kraichgau. The 39-year-old definitely does not want to accept a possible demotion to sports director.

“I can only say that I will only continue as sports director because you can see that we have developed something in the last few months,” he said in an ARD interview after the game in Munich.

“I definitely want to continue on this path here. And then we’ll see tomorrow whether that’s the case or not,” said Schicker.

National goalkeeper Baumann openly advocated that Schicker and Ilzer should remain part of the TSG path.

“He and Christian have built this team. We’re all behind them. If we stay on the path – that’s what I hope – it can be a very successful season.”
