Olympics: Eero Hirvos’s completely headless trick – nothing like this has been seen

Nobody believed in Eero Hirvonen’s Olympic medal in advance, writes Tatu Myllykoski.

Val di Fiemme

Finland’s Eero Hirvonen won the combined normal distance Olympic bronze in Val di Fiemme on Wednesday.

No one believed in the medal in advance, because Hirvonen had last been on the World Cup podium in an individual competition in March 2018.

Finland’s previous individual Olympic medal in the combined event was 24 years ago in Salt Lake City.

Hirvonen won his medal on the Zorzi climb, where he left his competitors behind and crossed the finish line in third place.

Se was an absolutely incredible trick.

Finland Eero Hirvonen became the biggest Finnish Olympic sensation in years by taking bronze from the normal distance competition on Wednesday.

No one believed in the medal in advance. No one.

Hirvonen, 30, had climbed the podium of the World Cup last time in an individual competition in March 2018. That is, almost eight years ago!

Finland’s previous individual Olympic medal in the combined event was 24 years ago, when Sampa Lajunen won two golds in Salt Lake City and Jaakko Tallus silver.

Hirvinen’s medal is an even bigger surprise than Iivo Niskanen and Sami Jauhojärvi parisprint gold in Sochi 12 years ago.

Hirvonen won his sensational medal on Val di Fiemme’s legendary Zorzi climb. He came through the 90-degree bend before the uphill skilfully, set good speeds at the start of the climb and left Ilkka Herolan mixed Stefan Retteneggerin like standing.

The race continued on the hill, and Hirvonen was able to catch even the top two Jens Oftebron and Johannes Lamparter’s. They ran away, but the Finn crossed the finish line in third place.

Hirvonen, 30, had previously reached the World Cup podium in an individual competition in March 2018.

Hirvonen started the skiing section in tenth place, 36 seconds behind the leader. The conditions on the track were really difficult – worse than on the tracks of Lago di Tesero even once during the Games.

Hirvonen tamed them in a chilling way.

Incorporated has sunk into oblivion as a sport during the last decade, although Herola and previously also Hirvonen have been counted among the leading men.

There have been times of success, but interest has waned.

It’s nice to welcome the united men back into the spotlight. You have been missed!
