Verstappen complains: “The cars last year were ten times better”

The three-day event ended on Friday Test drives the Formula 1 in Bahrain. Next week there will be another three-day test on the agenda before things get serious at the Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 8th.

Red Bull surprisingly strong

Which team has adapted best to the new regulations? Who will dominate the season? According to reports, Red Bull is surprisingly powerful with the engine developed together with Ford. But Max Verstappen I lost the joy of racing.

“That’s just not good,” said the four-time world champion in a Dutch media roundtable. Verstappen didn’t like last year’s ground effect cars, but “that was ten times better than this.” The 28-year-old said that he “didn’t have much fun” driving the cars, which were now equipped with a significantly larger proportion of electric vehicles. It feels like “Formula E on steroids”. As a real racing driver, he loves to drive at full throttle “and at the moment you can’t do that. For me, that’s not Formula 1.”

A new way to drive

Drivers in the latest generation of cars can activate additional battery power at the push of a button. The “Boost Button” can be used all at once or spread over the entire round. There is also the additional “Overtake Mode” – only possible if a pilot is within one second of a competitor in front.
