Valencia hurts Levante and Betis leaves Mallorca in relegation

Valencia won (0-2) a hot derby against Levante this Sunday on matchday 24 of LaLiga EA Sports that put Mallorca in the relegation zone, due to their defeat (1-2) against Real Betis, and that sank bottom team Real Oviedo a little further, surpassed (1-2) by Athletic Club.

The City of Valencia ended up hurt in the table, second from bottom to their team, and in pride, with the controversial ‘che’ celebration at the end of the match. Valencia left the red zone in a direct derby for salvation, thanks to goals in the second half from Largie Ramazani and Umar Sadiq. The first act had little story.

It was after the changes at the restart that the match came alive. Carlos Corberán’s team worked with Javi Guerra and Sadiq generating Ramazani’s goal in the 64th minute, while Luís Castro burned ships in search of getting into the game. The ‘che’ defense contained the local reaction and Sadiq sentenced.

A deadly counterattack that ended the chances of a frustrated Levante, with two yellow cards in a row for Kervin Arriaga, and with a fan who threw everything at the Valencia players for Eray Cömert’s celebration using a pennant with his shirt. With 18 points, the ‘granota’ team sees salvation within seven points, and Valencia has 26, two more than Mallorca.

The Balearic team now marks relegation after losing at home against a forceful Betis in the first half. It wasn’t like that as soon as it started, because Marc Roca sent it to the post, while Jan Virgili tried it for the locals. However, in a lethal counterattack, Abde put the Andalusians ahead after 20 minutes. Before the break, another quick play by the Betis was Cédric Bakambu’s 0-2.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men, who had just finished drying off Atlético de Madrid, knew how to manage the lead and the second half until Vedat Muriqi made it 1-2 after the hour mark. The incredible header of the ‘Pirate’ had no greater reward, because another one from Virgili narrowly missed. Betis could have scored the third before, saved on the line, but they didn’t need it.

The Betic team consolidated fifth position with 41 points and approached a defeated Atlético (45) this Sunday. At 31, Athletic Club is still far from Europe, but at least it is beginning to achieve good results in the League. Ernesto Valverde’s men, without Nico Williams who is still hampered by his pubalgia, started behind on the scoreboard due to Ilyas Chaira’s 1-0.

The Basque team came out with a different intensity in the second half, with more presence in the opposite field, and Mikel Jauregizar, asking for a change due to injury, made it 1-1. The urgency and Carlos Tartiere pulled an Oviedo that conceded like a stone in a penalty that Oihan Sancet converted. The pressure gripped the decisions of a bottom player with 16 points and increasingly condemned.
