“Despite the road I was not going to change my goal, I was going to fight for the sprint medal”

The Spanish skier Ana Alonso confessed this Thursday after winning the bronze medal in the Sprint mountain skiing event at the Winter Olympic Games that “despite the path” she had to go through after being injured in October “she was not going to change” the goal of “fighting for the relay gold and for the sprint medal.”

“I have no words, I am super excited. Thank you, really, to all the people who have been with me all these months because it has been super hard. I always said that I was not going to change my goal, that I was going to fight for the relay gold and for the sprint medal,” said the Andalusian in the Spanish Television microphones.

In that sense, she acknowledges that people looked at her “like she was crazy” for thinking that she would be able to be in the Winter Olympic Games after suffering a serious training accident in October. “I thought I wasn’t even going to make it to the Games, but here is the first medal,” he acknowledged.

“It has been super hard, really, but I have had a lot of people who have believed in me like my family, the physios, my coach, my psychologist, the nutritionist and the entire Spanish team. It has been incredible, I have felt a lot of strength, really. Despite the path I have had, I feel very lucky,” she said.

This bronze medal became Spain’s first medal in these Games and the sixth in the entire history of Spain. “We already knew that in mountain skiing we had been doing very good results, that we could be here fighting for medals. Hopefully it will be the first of many,” he stated while focusing on Saturday’s relay event with Oriol Cardona, Olympic champion shortly after. “We’re going flat out. The knee has already passed the worst, and for the relay it’s going to hold up like a champion,” he said.
