Alberts Šmits is moving abroad for the rest of the season

SM league the transfer limit is around the corner. The player transfer window closes on Monday, March 2.

There is a lot of buzz behind the scenes, as different league clubs try to strengthen their ranks or sell their players before the deadline.

One of the hottest names on the market was Mikkelin Jukurien Alberts Smitswhose new address was resolved on Thursday.

Jukurit announced that the 18-year-old super promise will move to Red Bull München in the DEL league with a comprehensive rental agreement for the rest of the season.

“Alberts has played a great season and will now be able to continue it in the playoffs of the DEL league and possibly also in the spring World Cup. The limits have not been met yet, but he has already been able to play very well against the best in the world,” commented Jukurie’s director of sports Mikko Hakkarainen in the bulletin.

Smits has hit hard in his rookie season. The Latvian defender has become one of Jukur’s most important players. He has collected 6+7 performances in 38 matches.

The Jukurs’ season is ending once again with the regular season, so Smits had several clubs on his butt.

Transfer rumors increased even more when Smits was unexpectedly left out of Jukurie’s lineup before Wednesday’s league round. Also a top defender Juuso Arola was on the sidelines for the Lukko match.

Cheaply, Smits did not leave for the rest of the season in other landscapes. According to the delivery, Smits’ price tag for the rest of the season was around 50,000–70,000 euros.

It is known that among the league clubs, at least HIFK had sought a Latvian defender in their ranks for the rest of the season.

Smits was also followed by league clubs from Switzerland and Germany operating with significantly bigger wallets.

Smits played in the Latvian team at the Milan Olympic tournament. The gracefully moving 191-centimeter and 93-kilogram talent was the youngest player in the Olympic tournament.

The youngster, known for his playing courage, performed strongly at the Olympic ice. Smits collected 0+2 performances in four matches of the tournament. Responsibility also came in Latvia’s second top five.

Smits is one of the hottest defense names in the upcoming summer’s NHL draft.
