Frenkie de Jong will be out for between 5 and 6 weeks due to a muscle injury

The player and captain of FC Barcelona Frenkie de Jong will be out for between five and six weeks due to a muscle injury to the distal biceps of his right leg, which he suffered this Thursday in training with the Blaugrana first team.

“The first team player Frenkie de Jong has injured the distal biceps of his right leg in training this morning. The tests confirm that the recovery process time will be between 5 and 6 weeks,” the Blaugrana club announced in a statement.

De Jong will not be able to play this weekend in the important LaLiga EA Sports match against Villarreal, this Saturday (4-3 p.m.) at the Spotify Camp Nou, and could miss around eight games between the League, Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

Thus, the Blaugrana coach, Hansi Flick, loses a key piece in his midfield scheme for the coming weeks. The Dutchman had played 31 games this season and in the last one, against Levante, he scored his first goal of the season.

Barça’s ’21’, with 290 games in the Barça shirt, is only two games away from equaling Phillip Cocu (292) as the Dutchman with the most games in Barça’s history. Although it is not expected to return until early April according to the best forecasts.
