BVB criminal complaint and criticism from the police

After the clashes between Bayern fans and officials before the top Bundesliga game, host Borussia Dortmund has filed a criminal complaint for trespassing, according to police. In a statement, the police also criticized the fan scene’s assessment of the incidents.

The clashes occurred on Saturday a good two hours before kick-off. According to the police, the trigger was an attempt by the visiting fans to break through the entrance control. In addition to five emergency services, one steward was injured in a physical attack and four bystanders were injured due to the use of pyrotechnics. There were a total of 30 criminal complaints, as the police announced two days after Munich’s 3-2 win.

Police: Reflexive blame is strange

In a statement, Dortmund’s deputy police chief Achim Stankowitz complained about a knee-jerk apportionment of blame to the police, which seems strange in view of video data. Criminal acts would also result in police action. One of the videos clearly shows a planned, division of labor approach to entering the stadium without entry controls and overcoming them by force.

“I also expect the clubs involved to take a clear position and take independent measures against the identified criminals,” said Stankowitz.

A large proportion of the organized Bayern fans reacted to the incidents with a kind of boycott during the game. During the course of the game, the Dortmund fans displayed a banner in the south stand that read “Freedom for visiting fans in Dortmund”.
