Goalkeeper Kauã Santos will be missing from Frankfurt for weeks

Kauã Santos was injured on Sunday in a duel against, of all people, ex-Frankfurt player Igor Matanovic. Only 17 seconds were played. “I watched the replay on the video. The action doesn’t look good. We hope for the best and keep our fingers crossed,” Frankfurt coach Albert Riera said after the game.

Last year the keeper was out for months due to a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee. At that time, the injury was treated conservatively and therefore without surgery.

Interplay in the Eintracht goal goes into the next round

Michael Zetterer came into the game for Kauã Santos against Freiburg. The 30-year-old, who moved from Werder Bremen to Frankfurt last summer, put in a flawless performance. “It’s not so easy to go into the goal from cold pants. So you can see a bit of the experience that he has in certain situations. And he also held one or two balls well,” said Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche.

With Kauã Santos’ injury, the interplay in the Eintracht goal continues. After the Brazilian tore his cruciate ligament, Zetterer was initially in goal at the start of the season. When Kauã Santos was fit, he was appointed number one by Riera’s predecessor Dino Toppmöller. After several mistakes, Toppmöller made Zetterer the starting goalkeeper at the end of October. After the veteran failed to convince, Kauã Santos has been guarding the Eintracht goal again since the beginning of 2026.
