Big bang in the ÖSV: Farewell to the head coach of the women’s team

“After three intensive, emotional and, above all, successful years, after long consideration, I decided to give my To resign as head coach at the end of the season and not accepting the offer of a new two-year contract,” says Roland Assinger.

As already announced by the sports management during the Olympic Winter Games in Milan Cortina, the Austrian Ski Association continues to trust Marko Pfeifer as head coach of the ÖSV men. The contract of the 51-year-old Carinthian was extended for another two years.

Assinger draws a positive conclusion: “I look back with great pride at what we have achieved together as a team with all the athletes, trainers, physiotherapists and service technicians during this time. By fulfilling my three-year contract, I am closing a chapter marked by highlights.”

The Carinthian lists: “These include winning the downhill and giant slalom World Cup, medals at world championships and the Olympic Games as well as victory in the women’s Nations Cup. Even if I end my job as head coach, I would like to continue to make my experience available to skiing.”

First discussions about a possible future role within the association have already taken place.

Assinger worked in various coaching roles at the ÖSV from 2008 to 2020 before joining Appointed ÖSV women’s head coach in April 2023 became.

Mitter regrets

The sports director of alpine skiing, Christian Mitter, regrets the decision: “Roland has informed us of his decision, which we of course respect. We will be holding discussions in the coming days. We can well imagine employing an expert like him in a different role in our coaching team in the future.”
