Formula 1|Sports expert Mika Salo takes a frank view on the status of the royal class of car racing.
Expert Mika Salo says the current state of the F1 series is confusing.
In Salo’s opinion, F1’s new cars are even more unreliable and unpredictable.
According to Salo, F1 now has artificiality and overtakes that are not actually overtakes.
Little confused.
This is how the F1 series is going today Mika Salo.
With his view, Salo refers to the rule changes for F1 cars, which have changed the nature of the competitions quite a bit.
The share of electricity in the hybrid power sources of the new F1 drivers is stated to be 50 percent, and the other 50 percent of the power comes from the internal combustion engine.
“The increase in the use of electricity has made cars more unreliable. In addition, the teams are having quite a lot of problems with utilizing the new power source, and how to drive a good lap as a whole,” says former F1 driver Salo.
Indication major technical problems were seen recently at the Chinese GP, when the top team McLaren was unable to participate in the actual race with its drivers.
“The new cars have brought with them electrical faults. It confuses the pack even more. It takes a while for the garages to make the cars work as they should,” says Salo, who has worked hard on television for several years as a sports expert, among other things.
Nowadays, on the track, you can’t burn the whole lap with the organ open, so to speak, but you have to conserve and concentrate energy. This has led to spectacular overtaking tricks, but some drivers consider the change to be artificial, and the constant overtaking situations have been referred to as “yo-jo”.
“The races have been really entertaining. There have been a lot of overtakings, but I’ve never been a fan of such artificial overtakings. When there are some boost buttons and you overtake with them, that’s how it is,” says Salo.
“At the end of the day, they’re not overtaking at all. They’re just changing places,” Salo continues.
The starting situations and the sudden slowing down of the car’s speed on the straight are the ones where something can happen.
The current state of F1 has raised a lot of eyebrows.
Drivers have to charge their drivers’ batteries even on the straights and lift the gas in places that would not be suitable for lifting in terms of actual racing.
Drivers also downshift in places where it doesn’t make sense for anything other than harvesting energy.
Controlling the collection and release of energy is now an extremely important skill for drivers. In general, driving an F1 car has become even more complicated.
Lately it has been speeches also because racing has become even more dangerous. There have been references to situations where a driver coming from behind unexpectedly meets a slowly moving vehicle in front.
“Starting situations and a sudden slowdown of the car’s speed on the straight are the ones where something can happen,” says Salo.
F1 series superstar Max Verstappen28, has completely eclipsed the current state of F1. Verstappen, the Dutch star of the Red Bull team, thinks that the current F1 is mostly a joke.
“Verstappen’s statements have been quite harsh. On the other hand, he is stated such that even if you drive a shopping cart, you drive it as hard as you can,” Salo, 59, says.
Salo reminds that the rules are the same for everyone.
“Of course, when his team’s tricks don’t go well, Verstappen is at the forefront of criticizing the new rules. But of course his critical statements indicate that not everyone enjoys driving new cars,” Salo continues.
Max Verstappen has not “tasted” the F1 drivers according to the new rule period.
However, Salo believes that the teams and drivers will adapt to the new rule period’s drives quite quickly.
“I think the races will be really good when the teams and drivers realize how to get all the power out of the cars and how to best utilize the power source.”
Verstappen is eighth in the current season’s F1 points table after two GP weekends. The 28-year-old British driver of the Mercedes-Benz F1 team is leading the World Championship points George Russell.
