ÖFB Cup: LASK is trembling its way into the final

On the second attempt, everyone had the clear view and there was no fog anywhere like the previous week. From the start it was a cup game worth seeing. The guests from Linz made an effort to quickly gain control of the action, but the Rieders quickly took command and subsequently found good opportunities, although there were hardly any absolutely compelling ones.

Here a shot from 16 meters just over the goal, there a double chance by Bajic and Mutandwa, then again Van Wyk was denied by goalie Jungwirth. Although LASK felt like they had less of the game, they had great chances to take the lead before the break.

Adeniran initially prevailed, aiming for the far corner but only hitting the bar. Shortly afterwards, Kalajdzic suddenly found himself alone in front of Ried goalie Leitner, but didn’t finish well enough because Leitner reacted strongly.

Immediately after the break, both teams used their opportunities more efficiently.

After a corner, the Rieders took the lead 1-0 through Rossdorfer (49th). However, we weren’t allowed to celebrate for long because LASK had the right answer ready right from the start. Kalajdzic brought Adeniran into position, who scored to make it 1-1 (51′). The LASK striker even had the lead a short time later, but, like on the other side, missed Sollbauer, whose header hit the crossbar.

As a result, both teams gave the feeling that they really wanted to reach the final. But time became a precious asset as it continually dwindled. A much celebrated goal by Steurer was not recognized.

With luck, LASK saved itself into extra time, where the game initially became weaker and weaker, and then LASK struck decisively. In a header duel with Kacavenda, Ried defender Havenaar ultimately pushed the ball into the goal to make it 2-1 for LASK (108th).

The Rieders wanted to force a penalty shootout, Mayer had the equalizer almost at the last second, but shot over it.
