Roland-Garros: the poster for the 2026 edition revealed, created by French artist JR

The Roland-Garros season is officially open! Although we will have to wait until May 24 for the start of the tournament itself, the organization has laid the first stone by unveiling the official tournament poster this Thursday, March 19.

Created by the world-famous French artist JR, who was again in the spotlight at the last Oscars ceremony, the poster is a photograph of a real production, in which we see a giant photograph of an eye in black and white covered with clay.

A spotlight on clay, such a distinctive element of French internationals. “I found photos that show how clay is placed on a court,” explains JR in a press release released by the organization. »

“It fascinated me because it’s a process that we never see,” he explains. When you arrive as a spectator, everything is ready. I had not imagined that the work of a maintenance person dispatching this clay could be so impactful. This ritual seemed very graphic to me. »

“This image kept coming back to me because it exudes something very powerful, particularly with this ocher color, contrasting with the black and white which constitutes my signature,” he continues. So there was something natural about it. After the assembly part in the workshop, we photographed this process in real life, on site. »
