Aston Martin team manager Adrian Newey quit his job, news website Autosport.com. Newey is to continue at Aston Martin as technical director.
Newey, who has worked in Formula 1 since 1980, was appointed Aston Martin’s team manager just four months ago. According to Autosport, Newey will step aside because the British team has had a miserable start to the season.
Aston Martin has not opened its points account in the first two races of the season. One of the reasons is the Honda engine, which has caused serious vibration problems.
The site according to that, the position of Newey’s team manager would be taken by someone who had been Audi’s team manager Jonathan Wheatley. The transfer schedule has not yet been confirmed.
Wheatley and Newey worked together in the Red Bull team from 2006 to 2024.
F1-legend Newey worked at McLaren when Mika Häkkinen won the world championships in 1998 and 1999. He also designed several world championship winning cars in his previous team at Red Bull.
