Morocco named winner of the CAN: why will Senegal only wear one star on its new jersey?

The future Senegalese tunic did not go in the direction of the communication of its federation. Tuesday evening, CAF announced the withdrawal of Senegal’s title at the 2025 African Cup of Nations, to the benefit of Morocco. Since then, the Senegalese federation has expressed its disagreement, before referring the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. For the players too, the situation is clear: they remain the legitimate African champions.

However, the new jerseys unveiled by equipment manufacturer Puma for the 2026 World Cup revealed a detail that did not escape their supporters. The Senegalese Lions crest is only topped with one star, that of the 2019 coronation. Where did the second go, the one collected on the field last January?

According to the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), the recent announcement of the African Football Confederation is not linked to this design choice. The organization provided “clarifications” in response to the confusion caused by these new outfits.

“Industrial constraints”

“Production of these jerseys was launched in August 2025 by our equipment supplier Puma, ahead of the last African Cup of Nations. At the end of our coronation, manufacturing times and industrial constraints did not allow us to interrupt this process already underway,” explained the FSF via a press release published on X.

“Aware of the legitimate attachment of the Senegalese people to their symbols, the FSF wishes to reassure all supporters: the new jerseys incorporating the second star are currently in production. Their availability is planned from next September,” added the Senegalese leaders.
