Bundesliga: 17 cases by 2017: BVB abuse allegations are expanding

The allegations of abuse against a former employee of the Bundesliga soccer team were made public in the media last fall. At the end of the year, the public prosecutor’s office searched the accused’s private apartment and confiscated technical devices and data carriers. The public prosecutor’s office said their evaluation is still ongoing, as are the ongoing investigations.

External processing at BVB is ongoing

BVB commented on the allegations in a statement last October. According to this, the club was informed in 2010 about an attempt by an ex-employee to approach a young player who was then of age in the 1990s. However, this could not be substantiated because the accused denied it and no complaint was made. In 2023, another accusation became known, whereupon BVB immediately terminated the employment relationship with the employee.

In November, the association also announced an independent investigation into the allegations of sexual assault. The association also asked those affected for help and information. When asked, a spokesman said that the external investigations with the commissioned law firm were continuing and that the public prosecutor’s office was also cooperating.
