Ski flying: Prevc flies to victory at home

A woman managed the longest flight of the day: During training, Olympic champion Nika Prevc flew to a world record distance of 242.5 meters, thereby improving her own record that she set in March 2025 in Vikersund, Norway. Her brother Domen holds the world record for men; he also sailed 254.5 meters in Planica in 2025.

The Austrian Stephan Embacher caused a moment of shock. The 20-year-old flew 240 meters, lost control after landing and then rolled and slipped over the slope. Embacher got up himself and left the landing area. According to an initial medical examination, he remained uninjured, the Austrian Ski Association said.

Prevc flew 232.5 and 230.5 meters. The exceptional jumper has won pretty much everything there is to win this season. Prevc triumphed at the Four Hills Tournament and won gold twice at the Winter Olympics. He is also an overall World Cup winner and ski flying world champion.

Competitions also on Saturday and Sunday

Karl Geiger, the second best German, took twelfth place (208 and 224.5 meters). Pius Paschke came 24th, Olympic champion Philipp Raimund came 28th.

“For me, the goal was to throw myself off the jump twice, and I did that quite well,” said Raimund on ZDF. Last year, the 25-year-old did not take part because of his fear of heights.

The jumpers continue this Saturday with a team competition (9.30 a.m./ZDF and Eurosport). There is also a women’s individual on the program (3 p.m./ZDF and Eurosport). On Sunday the season ends with another individual flight in the Valley of the Schanzen.
