Max Verstappen ‘salutes’ during the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix. Today, Sunday 29 Marchthe Dutch driver raced at Suzuka, the circuit where he won last year, in the third round of the World Championship, finishing in eighth place at the end of an extremely complicated race, in which he started from eleventh position on the grid.
His Red Bull was in fact sucked in for much of the GP in a duel at the last corner with Pierre Gasly’s Alpine, seventh at the finish, without ever managing to overtake it. The Austrian team therefore confirmed its problems in adapting to the new regulations, showing evident limits in particular in battery management, and Verstappen wanted to take it philosophically.
After passing on the straight, the Dutchman’s battery ran out, allowing Gasly to overtake and regain his position. Verstappen’s reaction? Max raised his hand and waved to the Frenchman as he passed.
