Hundreds of people Every week they line up in an unusual place to fill plastic containers with food. The house in Villa Fioritoa slum on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, is the birthplace of the Argentine football legend, who died in 2020 Diego Maradona. The house no longer belongs to the Maradona family and has been used by the new owner as a makeshift soup kitchen for a month.

A mural on the house facade shows Maradona next to the words “The House of God”. A group of volunteers who cook for their neighbors practice charity there. The facility is led by Father Leonardo Fabian Alvarez, who reports an increased need for food in Villa Fiorito since President Javier Milei’s economic policies led to the closure of small factories. “People have obviously lost their jobs. They line up, get food and take what we give them,” the priest explained.
